Facebook Lose 35 Billion Dollars and Mark Zuckerberg Takes Responsibility "For Everything That Happens On the platform"
Mark Zuckerberg broke the silence this Wednesday, March 21, saying that one can not make mistakes of these.
It was on his Facebook page that the founder of this social network took over the mistakes made by the platform, which allowed private data of its users ended up in the hands of the firm Cambridge Analytics. And promised change.
Zuckerberg, in his first comment on the case, has assumed that the company "made mistakes, there's more to do and we have to move forward and do it."
It is not an apology but it takes its share of blame. "I founded Facebook and ultimately I am responsible for what happened on the platform. I am seriously committed to doing whatever it takes to protect the community."
But it was COO Sheryl Sandberg who, in a testimony quoted by Reuters, said that "I deeply regret that we have not done enough in the case."
People's information was collected by an application called thisisyourdigitallife, which paid hundreds of thousands of users small amounts for them to do a personality test and agree to have their data collected for Academic use.
Many users do not read the long terms and conditions and barely know they are delivering their information, the big problem was that the software also collected the information from Facebook friends of the people who took the test without authorization.
Facebook's policy allowed third parties to collect data from friends, but only to improve the user's own experience of the application. It was prohibited for the data to be sold or used for advertising.
According to the American press, 270,000 people did the survey - but the terms of use, which are often ignored by the majority, allowed programmers to also access their friends' data.
That would have made the number of people with data collected jump to the 50 million home. The information obtained through the personality test was then sold to Cambridge Analytics.
If Hillary had won, the Libs would be cheering Zuck, not condemning him.
