'Super moon' camera shootout: Mate 10 Pro, Pixel 2, iPhone X nice pics

MANILA - The moon shone extraordinarily bright before turning blood red on Thursday, in a succession of astronomical events not seen in decades.

Three of the highest rated smartphone cameras go head-to-head under the "super blue blood red" moon in this shootout to test how well they capture dark landscapes.

HUAWEI MATE 10 PRO

The Leica co-engineered dual lenses on the Chinese electronics giant's flagship produced the brightest shot with the most detail with its dedicated night mode.

The shot captured the moon's corona, cloud textures and details of surrounding buildings.

GOOGLE PIXEL 2 XL

What Google's second crack at smartphone greatness lacks in terms of camera modes and manual controls, it makes up for with speed and ease of use.

The Pixel 2 XL's image is not as bright as the Mate 10's, but it captured a comparable amount of detail. The colors were also closer to the actual scene.

APPLE IPHONE X

The most expensive of the trio was also the most disappointing, producing the most blurred image.

The moon appeared to blend into the clouds and zooming in will show a lack of detail in buildings compared to the Mate 10 and the Pixel 2.
