'The Evil Gander'

crta.png

When riding hills and valleys of the north of Croatia, one usually comes across gems of a place just like this one. It is a small pub, decorated as if from a tale of old days. The small house looks as if it going to crumble any day now, but nobody can deny its charm and especially the way it's decorated.

The pot for roasting chestnuts is prepared for the evening round of chat and good times to be later remembered among friends. A glass of wine, taste of chestnut, maybe a few guitar chords, a song and pleasant heat from the stove will probably make a simple but unforgettable evening.

The chestnuts are ready, too. I love eating roasted chestnuts. They are often sold on stands during the winter in the city, lately through the whole year. Not sure I like that, chestnuts belong to winter, at least in my head. But, why not, really...

The pub owner's sense of humour is displayed on this barrel which belongs to a gander. It says 'Watch Out - Evil Gander'. I try to look for it but cannot find it anywhere. I also check behind the house but to no avail. Maybe he doesn't live here anymore.

Windows are decorated with marrows, small pumpkins and corn. This design is invoking the domestic atmosphere and sure raises the overall value of the place.

This wheel is not going anywhere, that's for sure. Well, maybe to a museum! :)

Enjoy your day! :)

Beautyfull :D

Wow. Very cool place indeed. That wheel should stay in the museum. It looks really old but with huge heritage. Its good we have them around us so we know our roots and appreciate life more.
Very homely decoration indeed. The only time a corn, pumpkins or anything related to plants is used as decoration in my house is during thanksgiving, but its always great to decorate them foe that day.
The good old days when i was living the real life not these busy and fast food life. Nowadays i eat processed food, only when i go to see my parents that i have the feel of having fun time with family and friends . I know the feeling of roasting chestnuts while having fun, My favourite of roasting is to use a pizza tray with holes in it just like that one in the pic above, and turn up the stove to GM6 (400F). Roast for about 30 mins, but the smell can give it away. I always remember that they can blow up, like popcorn, so i try to avoid too much fun and excitement and i don't forget to pierce the skin :) Then lying down on a terrace on a full moon night with a nice drink. And talking about everything random in the world, Some of my friends talking about horror stories (often making claims that they happen to be true stories) in the night especially if it is really late :D
This post took me way back to wonderful times. I think i would be visiting them more often :)
Nice post really @velimir.
I visited the @adsactly society today and i learnt a lot, we all should visit too. Inspiring content there.

Hey man, thank you for this scene. I love it! :)

I agree- I hate the rush and the fast food mentality!

Your motorcycle makes the place look especially inviting.

I had a mix up with a living evil gander when I was two (I do not remember). The gander was out of his pen and took after me. He got two good bites on my butt when my dog killed him dead. My father said he wanted to be angry with the dog for killing poultry, but in truth was protecting me, so he got a pass. Plus he was laughing so hard it was impossible to discipline either of us.

Thanks for another simply great post. I just love them.

Hahahahaa, great story man. Thank you! :)

Croatia is often called the country of thousands of islands :)
A beautiful and old pub is a calm and pleasant place.
A glass of wine, a taste of chestnut, maybe a few guitar chords, a song and a nice warmth from the plate - this is an excellent description of the recipe for an unforgettable evening :)
I've never tried roasted chestnuts, but now I have a desire to do it.
In general, I can say that this is a pleasant place with its own atmosphere, in which you can slowly and lately spend time and relax
Thank you and have a good day

Yes, our thousand islands often move attention from out inland which is just as magical ;)

Velimir we all know that we have the opportunity to drive with Motorcycles, along the way through our former commonwealth, we know that these are the most beautiful places. Wherever you go, you can not find so much welcome anywhere. When you are inserted somewhere far from the city where the time has stopped and these hosts take it in their yard. They take you for a moment at your friend. Talk to you about good old times. You just have to take the time, forget about everyday rush and enjoy listening to stories from their lives. Unpredictable. Enjoy your paths

Yeah man, times are changing, not for good most of the times these days..! :)

When I was a teenager, I used to spend my time to collect different things like empty packs of cigarettes because there was an indoor game that we could use to play with them. I also used to collect stones. It was during those days when PEPSI came up with something that was very cool for me: the PEPSI caps had flags of different countries in them. I started collecting them and this is when for the very time I came to know that CROATIA was a country. This looked something like this:

Second time, I think it was 1994 FIFA World Cup when I once again heard about this country because their team was doing very good in pool matches.

Now this third encounter with the word 'Croatia' is very artistic and happened today. :) I liked your photography and you're right this place in pics is decorated in a very old fashioned way and looks charming.

Excellent job @velimir.

Steem On!

Is that chestnut? I think you should definitely make a nice trip and then cook the chestnuts on the exhaust. :)))) @velimir

Ahahahaha... that would make me clean the pipes for at least two hours! :)

We are two people who are not afraid of cold weather for taste. ☺ We do it when we want something. 2 pipes are not important to us at all😀😀😀😀😀😀 @velimir

As at the time the pub was fully functional, I can image the reaction on a tourist's face when they saw "Watch Out - Evil Gander"
Some old folks here in Ojah design windows with corn too.

I enjoyed reading this, enjoy your day too!

Outstanding post and narrative. Thank you for sharing!

Damn, ever Braca is here! :D

You really truly travel around. You all sorts. This description got me: 'The small house looks as if it going to crumble any day now, but nobody can deny its charm and especially the way it's decorated.'

Keep up the good work, bro.
