[movie review+discussion] El Camino (Breaking Bad)

in #movies5 years ago

I am a huge Breaking Bad fan. And I really enjoyed this movie! But it was not without problems, and perhaps didn't add that much to the Breaking Bad story.

pluses:

  • Seeing Jesse back in action was amazing, and Aaron Paul killed this role, as always.
  • Badger and Skinny Pete provided good comedic relief, and their part in the plotline was solid.
  • The cinematography was great, as expected from Vince. The overall style was great, and a return to form from the Breaking Bad days.
  • The action was overall pretty good, great redemption moments for Jesse.
  • The flashbacks were well-done and did feel necessary for the plot of the film - more below

minuses:

  • While I definitely wanted a happy ending for Jesse, the final scenes began to feel rushed as Jesse managed to get his money and escape to Alaska.
  • While many of the flashbacks were well-executed, they ended up making the actual plot of the film pale slightly in comparison.
  • I wanted more from the climax of this film, more towards the end that either revealed more about Jesse or gave us something to think about as the movie ended. While I'm happy that Jesse got away, I didn't feel fully satisfied.

Overall - 6/10, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but wasn't left that satisfied nor have I continued thinking about this film the way I did with the show.
