Mission: Impossible - Fallout (Movie Review)
Full disclosure, I'm a Mission: Impossible fan who remembers Peter Graves fondly. However, I've been happily riding the rollercoaster with Tom Cruise since the first movie.
I remember being dubious when the first one came out, wondering if they could bring the technological hijinks, witty banter, and high-stakes missions into the modern era. Overall, they've delivered (side-eye to John Woo for MI2).
Fallout, the current installment of the franchise, delivers a fizzy, twisty, entertaining event that surrounds a super cliched story (oh no, nukes in the wrong hands...). But I didn't care about the story because I was so busy worrying about when Tom Cruise was going to break his leg crashing into the side of a building. At some point he's going to have to stop doing his own stunts, but until then, I'm here for it. I respect his commitment.
We're mid-summer, you're looking to cool off, so go buy the tub of popcorn and enjoy a couple of hours with Ethan and his team. For me, this is a "see it in the theater" recommendation; you'll want to see the gyrating helicopters on a big screen.
Congratulations @rosemaryoneill! You have received a personal award!
