Hedwig & The Angry Inch (Weird Greatness)
This movie is definitely a strange, hidden gem.I remember my dad use to take me & my brother to Best Buy almost every other week to find movies or games.During one of these visits, we found Hedwig.We never heard of this movie or anything, he just grabbed it because of how weird it looked & I'm glad he did.
The movie is about a transgender rocker named Hedwig stuck in East Berlin during the cold war in the late 80s before the Berlin Wall was took down.Before his sex change, he was just a girly-acting guy.But he ends up running into an army man named Luther who mistaked him as a girl at first.But they fell in love even after Luther realizing he was a man & he wanted to help Hedwig escape the shithole he was stuck in.The only way out was if they got married but there was no same sex marriage & they did full body checks...so Hedwig had to leave apart of his self behind in order to come to America.But the surgery got botched & he was left with an inch, hence "The Angry Inch."
Once Hedwig came to America, Luther ended up leaving him at a trailer park for someone else.To top it off, Hedwig sees on the news that the Berlin Wall was took down so his sacrifice was all for nothing.He then starts playing shows at strange places like diners, bars & hair salons.
That's when he meets a young, christian freak named Tommy.Hedwig takes Tommy under his wing & teaches him how to play music & gives him a look to go with it.
They fall in love but have a big break up when Tommy finds out that Hedwig isn't truly a woman.They end up going their seperate ways & Tommy becomes a star by stealing Hedwig's music while Hedwig is still stuck playing shit shows in diners.
The rest of the movie follows Hedwig & his band of misfits on tour that follows side by side with Tommy's tour.The movie is a wild ride, full of comedy & weirdness.But what really steals the spotlight is the movie's music soundtrack.
John Cameron Mitchell wrote it all, directed & plays as Hedwig in the movie.What's insane though is John is openly gay which I have no problem with but his father use to be a 4 star general!
Anyways, to wrap this up, the movie has one of my favorite songs performed by Tommy Gnosis at the end.It's called "Wicked Little Town."

I remember seeing this for the first time maybe 5 years ago. I had heard about it before but hadn't watched it. Like all musical films it's pretty strange in terms of pacing but it is a really good film. I had no idea the movie came a lot from Hedwig's own experiences, that's interesting.
One of my favorite movies. Every song on the sound track is good, and story line is as strange and unusual as it gets. If you haven't seen it you gotta check it out.
