Steemitcentral Lyrics Challenge. Day 46 LET IT RAIN.

in #music6 years ago (edited)

It's day 46 of a 60 day lyric challenge.

I came across it, like most things I happen upon, late and just stumbling around the chain.

I tend to click on an eye catching shot.

Judging a book by it's cover, or A post by it's pixa-pic.

One half awake click leads to another.

Pot luck gem fossicking.

I'm a long standing fan of @majes.tytyty's,

Vocab-Ability challenge.

Language, words, vocabulary.

I find it fascinating how it evolves and adapts, and borrows from other languages and grows.

There is no end to learning.

There is always a new word to discover or perhaps the origin to a familiar word.

Via @majes.tytyty I discovered @gandhibaba and the lyric challenge.

Music, the universal language, brings a great deal of emotion to words. Words come alive and speak to the soul when they are transformed to lyrics and song.

The lyric challenge asks you to post and write of your favourite song.

I can see why it is a 60 day challenge. I could never name a favourite song. Compiling a top 60 would be an impossibility.

@majes.tytyty shared REM Everybody hurts and linked to @gandhibaba's first lyric challenge post which is powerfully water themed.

The two combined drew my thoughts to a track and album title by Tracy Chapman

Let It Rain.

So many of Chapman's songs are prolific for being anthems for strength, fighting on, rising to a challenge, overcoming and enduring. They have the power to motivate and unify.

This album and it's opening track Let it rain, is different.

It is about the beauty and strength of giving up or perhaps giving in, to what may be.
The courage of vulnerability. To wash away everything that you have been carrying, at the risk of maybe losing yourself in the process but also chancing a cleansing and healing process as a result.

Relinquishing all and letting the rain wash everything away, having faith that it will deliver the relief that is so needed.

It has a melancholy about it, which I believe has an essential place in everyone, for balance.
We put too much emphasis on happiness.
This song and the entire album acknowledges impermanence and life struggles, yet delivers it with a feeling of beauty and resolve.

It allows you to stop and connect with emotion that may otherwise be difficult to access.

Let It Rain.

Let It Rain
Tracy Chapman
Let it rain,
As I walk these streets unknown.
To no one named, not even myself when I'm low.
Give me hope that help is coming when I need it most
Give me hope that help is coming when I need it most.
Let it go, no mother no father no home.
Forget as all others have forgotten when I'm alone.
But give me hope that help is coming when I need it most.
Give me hope, That help is coming, When I need it most.
Let it come love that lifts me up pain that brings me down
Everything I'd ever want and don't when I'm not strong.
But give me hope that help is coming when I need it most.
Give me hope that help is coming when I need it most.
Let it rain
Let it flood these streets and wash me away.
To where it makes no difference who I am, or what the future holds, when I don't know.
But give me hope that help is coming when I need it most.
Give me hope that help is coming when I need it most.

Written and performed by singer songwriter Tracy Chapman, released by Elektra 2002, produced by Tracy Chapman and John Parish
