What makes the festival of Boujloud Special?
A few days after Eid al-Adha. This cultural event takes place in some areas Morocco and you are lucky if you watch this event which is deeply rooted in Berber tradition. It involves individuals wearing sheepskins and goatskins roaming the neighborhood streets, knocking door after door asking for money or sheep and goat skins.
The most interesting in the festival is when the participants paint their faces with charcoal or wear masks, and some attach sheep hooves around their hands. At a certain point in the show, Boujloud Men break into the crowd to touch the audience, especially children, with the hooves, conveying the magical power of the sacrificial animal.
This performance is commonly believed to be a blessing. In these cases, Boujloud Men are considered symbols of a good omen or repelling evil.
