My New Recording: "Two Words" – A Song About Love, the Sea, and Everything Else
Today I would like to share a new recording of my song "Two Words".
Musically, I have not changed anything from the original version. The song is built on a very simple chord progression:
Am – C – F – E
followed by
Am – F – C – E
The only variation is that the second time the C/F sequence becomes F/C. This pattern runs through both the verses and the chorus.
It is easy to play, pleasant to listen to, and perhaps that simplicity is one of its strengths.
A World Divided Into Two Categories
The lyrics are based on a simple but powerful idea: the world can be divided into something unique and everything else.
While recording the song again, I replaced the word "deep" from an earlier draft with "Varna". It was not the result of profound philosophical thinking. The word simply appeared naturally while I was playing and immediately felt right.
Several oppositions appear from the very beginning:
Summer and all the others.
Varna and all the others.
Good people (like you) and all the others.
Eternal art and all the others.
The lyrical voice does not see the world as a collection of equal things. A few experiences, places, and people become priceless, while everything else fades into the background.
The Sea as a Keeper of Memories
The emotional center of the song is the question:
"Can you tell the Sea about me?"
The Sea is much more than a natural image.
It becomes:
a keeper of memories,
a messenger between separated souls,
a symbol of eternity and infinity.
The speaker seems unable to express everything directly and asks either the beloved person or the Sea itself to preserve the message.
The Mystery of the Two Words
At the heart of the song are:
"Two words, different from all the others."
The lyrics never reveal what these words are.
Most listeners will probably hear:
"I love you."
Yet leaving them unspoken makes the song stronger. Everyone can fill the silence with their own meaning: love, forgiveness, return, farewell, hope, or gratitude.
Poetic English Translation
Two Words
There are only two seasons:
summer and all the others.
There are, indeed, two kinds of sorrow:
Varna and all the others.
There are, you say, two kinds of people:
the good ones (like you) and all the others.
And there are two words
that can change our destiny,
different from all the others.
Can you tell the Sea about me?
Two words,
yet different from all the others.
Only two of them,
a single breath away,
different from all the others,
from all the others...
There are two kinds of art:
the eternal
and all the others.
There are two kinds of art:
the eternal
and all the others.
And there are two words
that can change our destiny,
different from all the others.
Can you tell the Sea about me?
Two words,
yet different from all the others.
Only two of them,
a single breath away,
different from all the others,
from all the others...
THE ORIGINAL LYRICS IN BULGARIAN
Final Thoughts
This song is built on repetition, contrast, and understatement. The most important words are never spoken. The most important feelings remain between the lines.
For me, "Two Words" is a gentle love confession filled with seaside nostalgia and the belief that a few things in life rise above everything else: love, memory, art, and the places that never truly leave us.
Thank you for listening.
