This Day in Rock and Metal History - 27th of December
On December 27, 2004, Jon Oliva's Pain released their debut album "''Tage Mahal" in the US. The album's release date was delayed for a few month in the US and the band had to change their name from Taj Mahal to Jon Oliva's pain after discovering a blues musician under the name Taj Mahal.
Jon Oliva's Pain is a progressive metal band that was formed in 2003, by Jon Oliva, the front man and vocalist of Savatage, a heavy metal band that was formed by the Oliva brother, Criss and Jon Oliva, in 1978. Savatage released 11 studio albums throughout the period from 1983 to 2001. Following the death of Criss Oliva in 1993, Jon worked on multiple side projects beside Savatage including Doctor Butcher, Trans-Siberian Orchestra "TSO" and Circle II Circle. In a memorial concert for Criss Oliva in 2003, Jon announced the foundation of Jon Oliva's Pain and performed 6 songs from "''Tage Mahal".
Jon Oliva is one of the early musicians to combine elements of orchestral music with heavy metal throughout many of his works with Savatage, TSO, Jon Oliva's Pain and Circle II Circle. He also was the first to use "counterpoint vocals" in many successful Savatage tracks such as chance, one child and alone you breathe, which was a tribute to Criss.
"Nowhere to run" is one of the greatest tracks from "'Tage Mahal". I'm sure you will like it.
