MUSIC FOR STEEM WEEK 15 (again) - @cmp2020 "The second movement of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata"
Hello everyone! Thank you all for your support on last week's performance! I am really grateful to everyone in the community for their words of encouragement, and I am very thankful to everyone who has been watching my recordings!
So I think there was a discrepancy somewhere along the line that caused me to get a week ahead of everyone else. So, I just made this performance for week 15 again since last week was technically a redo of week 14? Next week things should get back to normal with week 16.
Today, I selected the second movement of Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata. Though this sonata was written during the classical era and follows many of the era's rules as a result, it definitely foreshadows the ideas behind romantic compositions. The name Pathétique (which Beethoven's publisher gave it, but Beethoven liked) reflects the piece's concentration on depicting pathos (or emotion). While the whole sonata is really popular, the second movement is probably the most popular movement. This movement is incredibly warm, but has tension at times. One thing which I have always found fascinating is how the movement's main melody starts on (and largely highlights) the same note that the first movement ends on (c). The first movement's ending in c minor sounds incredibly stormy whereas this beginning to this movement almost seems to take the complete opposite approach towards the exact same note. To highlight that, here is a link to the sonata played by Daniel Barenboim. It will start at the recapitulation in the first movement so you can hear the contrast between the end of the first movement (around 9:42) and the beginning of the second..
I chose this movement because I find it very comforting (and I really did not feel like relearning the first movement. I played it for college auditions, and I'm gonna wait until I'm a better pianist to try to actually perform it again). I have always associated this movement with coping with a loss. The reason for that is probably because I always listen to (or play it) obsessively when I am dealing with grief. Here is my performance of the second movement from Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata:

Excelente trabajo de una muy exigente obra, Recuerdo que mi hermano la tocaba desde los 9 años, llegó a dominar los tres movimientos desde muy temprana edad... Me gusta mucho esa obra... Beethoven es muy difícil tocarlo y tu lo logras con mucha facilidad...
