Hi there Steemers. My son introduced me to this website. Wow! He's been going on for a while about bitcoin and crypto this and crypto that...
Crypto. Crypto-anything is scary for a child who lived through flower power that only lasted until you got married and had responsibilities – children – and then you ran by the rules and the arms race. Like me. Who grew up (white; not my fault) in Africa, through apartheid and the struggle and the liberation and the aftermath. And one not too used to this thing called 'pushing the boundaries' even though I like to think I have done that all my life. Alas, now that I think about it… I think I only had the ‘run of the jail’ and didn’t put my nose outside the 'allowed' spaces like a good little girl who at an early age understood the "roolz" all too well and hardly questioned them or whomever had devised and set them because I believed (naively) that grown-ups knew best and would never harm me/us/the world. So I played or worked the system like a rebel, thinking I was really rebelling when all along, I was only running within the system.
So I look at my beautiful young man and the thought strikes me that he might morph into some woolly anarchist with all this the crypto stuff. As a (n ex-regimented) parent, it scares the hell out of me (I was going to use a stronger word, but I don't know what the consequences are of saying "crap" on a cryptowhatsit website?? Time and the cryptowhatsit-website-police will tell, soon enough I’m sure).
So I figure I’ll take his advice and write a blog. I’ve been threatening, but I don’t quite like the FB format and this one has excited me into action. It seems the crypto people don’t mind rantings. In fact they seem to encourage them? Gosh. Now let’s test that assumption.
