Who Actually Invented Wi-Fi? The Surprising Story Behind It

in #myanmar5 days ago

Hey Steemit friends!
We use Wi-Fi every single day to stream videos, check social media, and work from anywhere, but have you ever wondered who actually invented it? honestly, the story is kinda more interesting than just one engineer sitting in a lab , you know?

Wi-Fi as we know it today wasn’t invented by a single person overnight. More like it was built from a bunch of groundbreaking discoveries, with two very famous names sitting right at the core: Hedy Lamarr and Dr. John O'Sullivan.

Back in World War II , a famous Hollywood actress named Hedy Lamarr who was also a brilliant inventor co-patented a secret communication system called “frequency hopping.” Her idea was meant to stop radio-guided torpedoes from being jammed. Then, years and years later, this same concept turned into a foundational piece for modern wireless technology, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

So, jump forward to the 1990s down in Australia, and a bunch of scientists, led by Dr. John O'Sullivan at the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) wound up pulling off yet another huge breakthrough. At first they were busy with black holes in radio astronomy, but somehow they came across a vital radio approach that dealt with signal interference, especially when you’re indoors. This specific patent gets talked about a lot as sort of the backbone for today’s Wi-Fi speed, as well as its overall steadiness, which yeah, sounds simple , but it really matters.

So yeah, because of this, Australia’s CSIRO is officially credited with creating core Wi-Fi technology, while Hedy Lamarr is remembered as the pioneer who basically made wireless communication possible first.

It’s wild how a mix of Hollywood creativity and deep-space astronomy ended up giving us that smooth Wi-Fi connection we rely on every day.

Did you already know about this before? Tell me in the comments!
