My New Year Goal : Planting in My Backyards
Hello friends,
As the new year begins, I’ve set a goal that’s close to my heart—planting 500 plants in backyards across my community. It’s not just a number; it’s a promise to nurture nature, strengthen connections, and bring a little more green into everyday lives.

Backyards are more than just patches of land—they’re quiet sanctuaries, spaces for growth, both for plants and people. Whether it’s a vibrant flower bed, a small vegetable garden, or a few potted herbs on a patio, every plant contributes to cleaner air, happier minds, and a healthier planet.

My mission is simple: work with neighbors, friends, and local volunteers to plant trees, shrubs, flowers, and edible plants in as many backyards as possible. Each plant will be chosen with care—native species that thrive in our climate, require less water, and support local pollinators like bees and butterflies.

Why 500? Because I believe small actions, multiplied, can lead to big change. One plant might seem like a drop in the ocean, but 500? That’s a forest in the making—500 chances to cool urban spaces, reduce carbon, and inspire others to do the same.

This goal isn’t just about planting—it’s about connection. I’ll be knocking on doors, hosting planting workshops, and sharing seeds and seedlings with anyone who wants to join. It’s a grassroots effort to turn individual backyards into a network of green havens.

Along the way, I’ll document each planting—sharing photos, stories, and tips—so others can start their own backyard revolutions. I want people to see that you don’t need a big garden or fancy tools. All you need is the will to grow something.

By December, I hope to look back on 500 new plants thriving in the soil—each one a symbol of hope, resilience, and community. Not only will we have greener yards, but we’ll also have stronger neighborhoods, where people share compost, swap vegetables, and take pride in their little piece of the Earth.

So here’s to a greener year. To dirt under our nails, sun on our backs, and the quiet joy of watching something grow—just because we cared enough to plant it.
Join me. Let’s grow 500 reasons to smile. 🌱
