Taylor Energy OK's $475 million settlement for longest oil leak in U.S. history

“For the last three years, the Coast Guard, along with our federal partners, have committed to the challenging mission of containing and removing more than 800,000 gallons of oil discharging into the Gulf of Mexico,” said Capt. Will Watson, commander of the Coast Guard’s New Orleans Sector.

Interesting article about the long running oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico and what might be the final resolution to it. The fact that this is still going on all these years later is amazing and sad to me, it just seems like everything takes forever in the US now. Anyway, hopefully the money that Taylor Energy is going to pay in settlements will go to help restore the fragile environment of South Louisiana where the oil well is located. And personally I hope that some of the money goes to fresh water sediment diversions, which give restoration of the wetlands the biggest bang for the buck.

Good point, I bet there's some, but they way that companies have searched the globe for oil, it's hard to believe they missed a big deposit leaking oil out.

It's the small deposits that I worry about, the uneconomic ones
