It is a bit of a shock. It is winter here and while the coast offered the mildness of a more tropical climate, Johannesburg is in the midst of a cold spell going down to -3 degrees Celsius at night. This is very cold for us and I'm not a happy chappie...

Quick question, I've signed up for steembasicincome a couple of days ago and I have followed the page on steemit, is there any other information I need to keep track of shares? I'm in the dark a bit as to how it works.

SBI has different pools. I think they allow 100 shares per pool. You get put in a pool and then start getting an upvote once a day from that pool. Look out for sbi1 to about sbi7 on the list of your upvotes on a post. Every time you add shares the weight of your upvote increases, not necessarily the monetary value.
Advantage: it carries on for as long as you are active on Steemit
Disadvantage: you need to post to get the upvote.
There is a google page somewhere that shows all kinds of graphs and you can trace how many shares you have. You'll have to search their posts for that. It is too much information for me.
It takes a couple of days for a new purchase to start reflecting, but once it is on, it is on. My goal is to get to a 100 shares.

I prefer warmer weather. I lived in the US Virgin Islands when I was in high school and Key West, Florida for eight years and I'm a bit spoiled now.
