$1000 To Visit The Forest - $2000 for Elevation Gain (A Theory for The Future of America's Forests)

in #nature6 years ago

I heard an interesting concept over the thanksgiving table that really struck home. The idea was that in the future, only the rich would be able to wonder into the wilderness. As if the wilderness would become one of humanities finest luxuries.

On a coast of America(Pacific), which for the last 2 years seems to have it's beauty constantly covered it a haze of ash stemming from wildfires, set ablaze by less than innocuous humaniods that don't mind the warnings of nature. Those that choose to ignore the storm that comes back stronger every year. I won't point any fingers.

Anyway. I think the idea is insanely accurate.

How Much Would You Pay To Visit Nature?

There are already so many prerequisites to being able to hike or visit the wilderness. Don't believe me? Let's think about. Here we go: 1, must have a car and gas money. 2, must have proper clothing/gear or you'll tear yours up at best. 3, must pay for a permit if it's state maintained. 4, in some cases, must also pay for parking, or extra fees.

Also, for comparison, I believe the cost to camp in YellowStone national park for a nights was somewhere in the tune of $45...and the gas to get there.

Sure, you may not pay all of that at the same time, if you're lucky, but even on a less taxing day, you're looking at spending at least $20 to go on a hike. Let's be honest, there are cheaper dates. I consider the price of the movies to be skyrocketing, but honestly, I pay more every time I go hiking, and let's not even talk about snacks.

Conclusion

That pretty much concludes today's blog garble de gluck. I feel like I've left my Steemit far too in active as I await my next @Steepshot opportunity. So, this is for you, dear followers of mine.

What do you think about this theory? Will the cost to visit the wild continue to go up?
