MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY
MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY |
|---|
My first day in the university specifically UNIVERSITY OF UYO was an unforgettable experience filled with curiosity, excitement, and fear. From the period I stepped my feet at the gate, I could feel that my life was flipping into a new chapter.
The campus was lively and very large, with long tarred road, tall buildings, and little of green surrounding that made the school environment look serious and welcoming. Students walked past me with confidence, some were discussing with with friends while others were discussing about lectures.
Seeing this made me feel proud to be part of it, but also sent a message to me that, I was now responsible for my own success.
At the early beginning of the day, I felt slightly confused and overwhelmed. Compared to my secondary school where I was closely monitored by teachers, the university environment was independent and open. To find my faculty and lecture building was not easy because the environment was very big. I was worried about being late for my first lecture.
I was asking fellow students and security personnel for directions. Some students friendly behaviour surprised me and help reduced my nervousness, though students showed me the wrong direction as a fresher that I was I had no choice than to go to where I was directed.
The lecture halls were bigger than classrooms I had known and seen before. Thousands of students were already seated waiting for the lecturer, this created a serious academic atmosphere. When the lecturer finally entered the lecture hall, I stood up only me and shouted "Class greet", everybody bursted into laughter. I felt embarrassed and sat down.
The lecturer didn't say anything, he just went ahead to introducing the course and explained what he had for us that day. He also emphasised on time management, independent study, and importance of self disciplined.
Listening carefully, I realized that university required commitment and maturity. After the class, I had the opportunity to interact with other students from different backgrounds, cultures and States each with unique ambitions.
Some of the students were outspoken and confident, while others like me were still adjusting to the new environment. The conversation with students helped me feel less alone and made me to see university as a place of shared goals and diversity. I didn't make friends on my first day though I interacted with them but I didn't develop the bond of friendship yet.
I decided to explore the campus by visiting the library where I was very impressed by the quiet environment and the large collection of digital resources and books. Going to the faculty, I saw student's notice board filled with results, announcement about sports and up coming events like election, club ect.
This made me realise that the university was not just about academic activities but also about social involvement and personal development.
As evening approached, I went back to the house using the school shuttle, when I reached the house, I felt exhausted but satisfied. Reflecting on the day, I noticed how much I have learned in just a few hours, not only academically but also about social interaction, discipline,e responsibility, and independence.
Normally, I felt slightly anxious about the unforeseen challenges ahead of me, but I erwas hopeful and determined. My first day in the university marked the starting of a journey that would shape my future, help me pursue my dreams, build my behaviour with confidence.
