أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Assalamu-Alaikum-wa-Rahmatullahi- wa-Barakatuh!
Hello to all of my Steemit family!
Today wasn’t really about running errands or getting anything accomplished; Rather it was a day to just take time off from all that and enjoy lunch with my neighbour Aunt Fatima, who sells spices at the market.
It’s amazing how such a small act can create such a huge amount of barakah(blessings).
🛒 Story of how it took place?
| Time | Event | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| 09:00 | Walked by Aunt Fatima’s stall. | Looked tired... hasn’t eaten yet. |
| 09:15 | Went home and cooked some extra jollof rice. | Cooked enough for two. |
| 09:30 | Sat with Aunt Fatima under the shade of the market | Talked and ate for approximately 20 minutes. |
🍛 What Made it a Beautiful Moment
- She Didn't Eat After Fajr
She was busy preparing the market for sale and often had no time to eat.
- We Spoke About Her Grandchildren
She showed me photos of her grandchildren in school, and we laughed together about her youngest grandson being very stubborn.
- People Noticed How Kind She was
There were two women seated close to us who also smiled, and one said, "May Allah bless you both."
🤝 What Islam Teaches about Caring for Others' Needs
In sharing food (even if only 1 plate) you all are engaged in serving Allah's creation and meeting their needs through sadaqa (charity) by being close to Allah.
"Allah Says in the Holy Qur'an; They Feed Others from the Love of Their Hearts. They Feed the Poor, Orphan, and Prisoner."
وَيُطْعِمُونَا التَّعَامَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا
(Surah Al-Insan 76:8)
Prophet narration; "On the Day of Resurrection, the shade of the believer will be their charitable deeds."
(Tirmidhi, Hasan)The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"Spread Salaam (greetings of peace), feed others, keep close ties to your family, and pray at night while others are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace."
(Tirmidhi)The Lessons That I Will Carry With Me
Lesson Why It Is Important Kindness is often very small A single plate of food can change someone's entire day Being present for someone is extremely powerful Just sitting and listening to someone may have meant as much as the meal Barakah (blessing) is real After I left the Sisters house, I felt so much lighter and calmer for the rest of the day. You don't always need large amounts of money or huge projects in order to help people. You sometimes can help by providing food, your time, and/or a listening ear.
What about You?
When was the last time you shared food or time with someone that you weren't planning on? What did you notice afterwards?
