Achievement-1 Introduce Yourself: My Introduction to Steemit
Hello, all the Steemit members and dear friends who invited me to this beautiful platform. I am Ghani Mengal. A freelance journalist and content creator.
I'm from a small city in Pakistan called Quetta. I left my engineering college as I couldn't find my future in it. I started to pursue my further life journey as a Blogger. The hype for blogging in 2018-2019 was crazy, so I also wanted to become a digital nomad and pursue blogging as my career.
From 2019 to 2021, I worked with multiple blogs and started and failed multiple blogs, too. During that period of time, I learned content writing and researching. I did make a good amount of money from blogging and from sites like Medium and other guest blogging platforms.
As I got into researching and content writing deeper, I realized that I found digging into stories and following hints, tips, and stories more and more fascinating. It was the time when I also started covering topics as a journalist and joined Newsbreak in 2021.
The beginning was tough. I struggled a lot as all my income sources from Medium and blogging were stopped, and I was just learning and practicing journalism. I completed multiple journalism courses from Reuters, the Facebook Journalism Program, MSNBC's Brandy Zedrozny's courses, and completed many other journalism courses in Digital Journalism, Investigative Journalism, Mass Media, Media Journalism, OSINT investigation, and other fields of Journalism in general.
From 2021 to 2025, I just focused on journalism and published more than 2000 news stories on the Newsbreak platform. But in the fresh start of 2025, Newsbreak decided to change its policies, allowing only contributors who are US citizens or are actively working for other global media giants.
As I was neither a US citizen nor a member of any international media organization. So in mid-2025, they removed my account and deleted all the work that I've done during the last 4 years.
In my short career, I've seen some downtimes, but this was the hardest. I lost my complete work/portfolio of 4 years.
But after recovering from that, I started working again. I started working as a freelance journalist and freelance writer. I also started my content creation journey and built a real online business.
Now, someone from my network suggested that I should check this platform called Steemit. And to be honest, I liked the idea of a decentralized platform for writers. As I'm working on other platforms like Medium, Substack, my personal WP blog, and other freelance platforms, Steemit gives more power to content creators.
I'm still new to the platform, and I only have 10SPs (hope soon I will get more). I am trying to understand the platform and the audience more and more. Once I've done with that, then I can better produce and create content for this audience. But for now, I feel the warmth of the platform and the support of the audience.
