Achievement 3: Content Etiquette & Understanding Plagiarism | By @maazakbar1122
Assalam-o-Alaikum everyone.
I am @maazakbar1122, and today I am very excited to share my Achievement 3 post on steemit. This task is a vital and important part of the Newcomers' journey as it focuses on the rules of Steemit and the significance of creating original and high quality content.
So now let me tell you about Plagiarism
Definition of Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is defined as presenting another person’s words, ideas, or work as one’s own without proper acknowledgement (Purdue University, n.d.).
Explanation of Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is considered an act of academic dishonesty and can result in serious consequences such as failing grades, suspension, or damage to professional reputation (Harvard University, n.d.).
It may occur intentionally or unintentionally, but both forms are treated seriously in academic and professional settings.
Example of Plagiarism:
If a student copies a paragraph from A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking and submits it without quotation marks or citation, this is direct plagiarism.
Types of Plagiarism:
Scholars identify several types of plagiarism (Purdue University, n.d.):
1.Direct Plagiarism
2.Self-Plagiarism
3.Mosaic Plagiarism
4.Paraphrasing Plagiarism
5.Accidental Plagiarism
6.Source-based Plagiarism
Definitions of the Types:
1. Direct Plagiarism
Copying text word-for-word without citation (Purdue University, n.d.).
2. Self-Plagiarism
Reusing one’s own previously submitted work without permission (Harvard University, n.d.).
3. Mosaic Plagiarism
Blending copied phrases into original writing without proper acknowledgement.
4. Paraphrasing Plagiarism
Rewriting someone’s ideas without giving credit to the original source.
5. Accidental Plagiarism
Unintentional failure to cite sources correctly.
6. Source-based Plagiarism
Incorrectly citing or fabricating sources.
How to avoid Plagiarism:
Simple Rule to Remember is that if the idea is not originally yours → CREDIT IT.
So these are my opinions on plagiarism.
