INTRODUCTION

I am here again to share what I have learnt about basis securities used in steemit. Security is one of the most important aspects of using any online platform, and Steemit is no exception. As I continued my journey on Steemit, I realized that knowing how to protect my account and manage my wallet properly is essential. In this post, I will share what I learned about the basic security in Steemit, including the different security keys, how I retrieved them, how to transfer tokens to another account, and what “Power Up” means. This knowledge is helping me to secure my earnings and use my account with confidence.

Understanding Steemit Security Keys and Their Functions

It can be painful for one to lose his/her hard-earned money as a result of not securing the account properly. So Understanding the security keys and measures applicable to steemit, is an important course to undertake. This basis forms my discussion on achievement 2.
Steemit has several types of security keys, each designed for specific functions. These keys are unique passwords that control what you can do on your account.

Here are the main keys I learned about:

  • Owner Key:
This is the most powerful key on Steemit. It is used to change or reset other keys when needed. I keep this one very safe and offline because it gives full access to my account.

  • Active Key:
This key is used for transferring tokens, powering up, and voting for witnesses. It’s the key I use most often for transactions.

  • Posting Key:
This key is used for day-to-day activities like posting, commenting, and upvoting. It is the safest key to use when logging in daily.

  • Memo Key:
This key is used to encrypt or decrypt private messages and memos sent along with transfers.

Retrieving My Keys On Steemit?
I have successfully retrieved all my keys on steemit. To retrieve my keys, I logged into my Steemit account, clicked on my profile icon, and selected Wallet. From there, I clicked Keys & Permissions, which displayed all my public and private keys. I made sure to copy and store them safely in a secure location offline, because losing them means losing access to my account.

How To Transfer Tokens to Another Steemit Account

Transferring tokens on Steemit is quite simple once you understand the process. Here are the steps I followed:

STEP 1
Go to my “Wallet section."
Under the STEEM or SBD balance, clicked on the “Transfer” button.

STEP 2
Enter the username of the receiver (starting with “@”).

STEP3
I typed the amount of tokens I wanted to send.

STEP4
In the memo section, add a short note if necessary.

STEP5
Finally, click “Next” and confirm the transaction using the Active Key.

The transfer processed almost instantly, and I could see the transaction recorded on the blockchain. I was impressed when I saw my mentor doing this.

What “Power Up” Means and How I Can Power Up My Steem

“Power Up” in Steemit means converting your liquid STEEM tokens into Steem Power (SP). Steem Power gives your account more influence, allowing your votes and posts to carry more value and reward others better. It also helps in building reputation and stability within the community.

Here are the steps I can take to power up my Steem:

STEP1
I will go to my Wallet.
Under the STEEM balance, I will click on the small arrow next to it.

STEP2
From the drop-down options, I select “Power Up.”

STEP3

I will enter the amount of STEEM I want to power up.

STEP4
I then go to confirm the process with my Active Key.

After a few seconds, my Steem balance reduced, and my Steem Power increased. This felt exciting because it meant I was becoming more invested in the platform!

Conclusion

Learning about Steemit’s security keys, transfers, and power-ups is an important step for my understanding how the platform works. I now understand how to protect my account and manage my tokens wisely. I have learnt that Security is the foundation of trust on Steemit, and every user should take seriously from the day one of writing on steemit.

My teacher @avalanch is has done justice to this course and I appreciate him so much.
