The end of the Korean War will be announced later this year, following a historic meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean president Moon Jae-in.
South Korea and North Korea will hold dialogue and negotiations in various fields, including high-level talks, as soon as possible, and take active steps to implement the issues agreed at the summit.
The announcement comes after Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong Un signed the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification on the Korean Peninsula.
An announcement made after a full day of work and a 30 minute private conversation between the two leaders will end the world's longest conflict.
Korea fought in 1950 when the North Korean People's Army invaded South Korea. Although the armed conflict ended three years later in 1953, with the signing of a ceasefire, no formal peace treaty was ever signed, and technically, both remain at war.
The two leaders sincerely declare ... that there will be no more war on the Korean Peninsula and a new era of peace has begun," the declaration said.
The peace declaration that will end the Korean War also announced Moon Jae-in's plans to travel to North Korea later this year.
