Monday (14/05/2018) to be the bloodiest day in Gaza since the war 2014. Palestinian Authority called the Israeli troops have killed 55 people and injured 2,700 people in yesterday's clashes.

The Israeli army says there are about 40,000 Palestinians who took part in the protests and clashed in 13 locations, opposing the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem. The death toll included 8 children under the age of 16.

Crowds gather near the border. Some demonstrators threw stones close and tried to break through the fence, with Israeli snipers preparing for positions.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced a three-day mourning period.

"Today, again, the killing of our citizens continues," he said.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says every country has an obligation to protect its borders.

"We will continue to protect our sovereign and citizens," he said, as quoted by the BBC.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said its soldiers opened fire on people involved in terrorist activities, not to protesters.

"We have seen three different groups, they are wearing terrorist equipment with weapons, trying to plant mines at three different points," Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Consricus said.

He claimed, the mass was dissolved with tear gas and other actions in accordance with the rules.

Over the past few weeks, protests and clashes on the Gaza border have killed 109 Palestinians since March 30.

No Israeli citizens were killed and the military faced criticism over the use of firearms against Palestinian protests.
