Bruno Le Maire: Do not Let The US Be The World Police
)
French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire, suggested the EU compensate European companies affected by US sanctions against Iran. He said that the US is not the only world economic power.
In his speech, he referred to a series of EU counterattacks on US sovereignty sanctions against Cuba in 1996. At the time, Brussels argued that the sanctions favored Washington's foreign policy interests at the expense of EU sovereignty.
The 1996 regulation is structured to protect economic and / or financial interests against the impact of the application of extraterritorial legislation.
"The strengthening of the 1996 regulation allows us (European Union countries) to pay the sanctions imposed on our companies, we have a budget to protect our business," said Le Maire in a speech broadcast on European radio 1 quoted from RT (21/5) .
In his speech, Le Maire also condemned US actions that withdrew from the deal that has been made since 2015. He said the United States undermines cooperation opportunities for decades to come.
"Are we going to let the US become a world policeman? Of course not," he added.
