Yeah the american worker also has more food, less disease, less murder, less rape etc. They also have access to technology a medieval peasant couldn't comprehend: computers, planes, cars, phones, radio, guns... shall i go on?
The food most modern wage slaves eat is poison by ancient standards. I would argue that the Dark Ages is a pretty low bar to set for what an acceptable level of violence is, but mass shootings are still a common occurrence here. Technology often widens the wealth disparity gap, as wage slaves don't have access to such resources.
