Malaysia Day 2019

Trying my best to enjoy my 3rd Monday off due to public holiday here. One of the advantages of living in Malaysia is an ample amount of holidays to celebrate due to the confluence of many cultures and religions. The haze here is out of control though and has reached hazardous levels, Still though, I needed to tend my garden duties..

I had a random guppy kill earlier in the week and believe it was due to an excess of anaerobic plant and fish waste that got stirred up by a kid playing with my aquaponics setup. So, I did a fairly extensive clean up and I'm happy to report all seems to be well.

I came home and saw that my neighbor that's been renting a room from the auntie next door for a few weeks was standing outside with her 9 month old baby in the 33c haze. Fuiiyooh! I am aware they've been having some issues but locking a mother and infant outside after knowing the baby went to the clinic is unacceptable. Needless to say I invited her and Elijah the 9 month old in my house.

The situation is complicated and oh so very Malaysian. Auntie is an Indian citizen that has long overstayed her visa. And the mother is a Sri Lankan refugee that actually has far more rights to be here than the auntie landlord. My wife called the auntie to basically say WTF and that's when the Auntie gave some attitude unaware that my wife is an NGO. One phone call and the Auntie will be on a plane back to India tonight. Currently, trying to relocate the refugee and update their paperwork with the government so that they can get government assistance.

Here is a picture of Elijah

There is never a dull moment to be had in this very complex and colourful land. I certainly didn't wake up today expecting to be babysitting a refugee, but then again being a foreigner in Malaysia it's best to expect the unexpected..

Yeeks, that does sound complex. I take it you love living there though. You wouldn't be able to grow that kind of stuff here!

I absolutely cannot tolerate the cold damp and dreary days.. Though, I do miss having seasons but for now forever summer suits me just fine..

As far as everything else goes I've been around enough to know home is where the heart is and the grass is only greener where you water it and throw some poop on it..

Forever summer sounds bloody awesome. Sigh

Likewise, dealing with it now, a bit tenuous to say the least...

Beautiful photographs mate.
I love how you captured the magic in those water droplets in the first photo.

The situation is complicated and oh so very Malaysian.

Seems to be complicated pretty much everywhere man. The politicians have done a great job of rendering citizens pretty powerless, while also accepting that powerlessness. It's noble of you to help that family out. We need collective non compliance to the system, and all the "studying" and learning in the world isn't going to fix it, because then people hue-mans try to fight the system with the system; based on info the system is feeding. Once you realize, you real-ize. I'm quite sure you know what imatalkinabout!

I've learned to pretty much expect the unexpected in pretty much all aspects of life.
Elijah looked pretty intrigued. We're you making some funny faces? lol.

Much appreciated, I love taking pictures but I've never had a real camera so can't claim to know anything more than basic composition and is my focus tolerable..

Dude, it's definitely complicated every where. At times I got hella frustrated and consider moving back to the states but I'm not ready to play American again quite yet. At least my new-found confusions aren't the same old stuff..

I think the intrigued look on the babies face was simply from who is this pale Indian dude with weird coloured eyes and why does he speak gibberish lol..
