I studied from first to tenth grade at St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Coonoor. This school has earned a reputation as one of the best schools for girls in the Nilgiri district. All the children from the surrounding areas attend this school. I am proud to have studied in such a good school. The education at this school is excellent, and the environment, discipline, and peace are all conducive to learning. It is a very strict school and a Christian institution.

A moment that changed my school life

When I was in school, I was studying in high school. At that time, while I was studying in high school, I generally loved singing, dancing, and other extracurricular activities. However, until I finished primary school, our school had a large student population, and since it was a Christian school, they gave priority to Christian students. They held competitions and selected some students for singing and dancing competitions, and I also participated in these competitions and won some of them. But when I went to higher secondary school, I transferred to a different school. As soon as I joined higher secondary school, our school had a much smaller student population. That school was co-educational, so they held separate competitions for girls and boys. Therefore, I was able to participate in all the competitions. Generally, girls wouldn't participate in activities like dancing, singing, or acting in plays, so I got a good opportunity. In that school, I would sing in every program. From the school anthem to all other songs, they would give me priority. Because of this, I became very famous in school, and everyone knew me. That gave me a lot of confidence.

Describe how you felt as a student

My favorite school was the Higher Secondary School. While studying there, students were given special respect. All the programs were conducted by the students. That school was a very strict school. Three months after I joined that school, they held elections for two positions. I had the opportunity to contest for three positions. I didn't choose to do so myself; my teachers recommended my name to contest, seeing my boldness and abilities. I didn't know about conducting such competitions. This kind of thing didn't happen in my old school, so I was unaware of it. One day, we were all gathered at the school for general prayer, and then my name was called out. I was very surprised. Our headmaster said that they had selected three people for positions like School People Leader and Quality Leader based on their character, qualifications, abilities, and discipline. My name was among them, and for two posts, I was selected for two posts include pupil leader. I was very happy and surprised. That day, I realized how joyful and proud it was to be a student in this school.

Any friend or teacher who meant a lot to you?

There were many teachers in the school where I studied; there were 60 to 70 of them, both men and women. Among them, the teachers who taught me included about seven male teachers and one female teacher. She taught us Tamil, and her classes were excellent. The teacher I liked the most was Mr. Jude, who taught us Office Management. When he taught, he would create a feeling as if we were managing directors of a company. When he was teaching, our class would be very quiet; we would listen attentively without any disturbance, because his classes were so good and interesting. Besides the subject matter, he very naturally taught us how to incorporate management skills into our lives, how we should behave, and what our conduct and behavior should be like in public places, at home, and among people. I never missed a single one of his classes. He and our Tamil teacher were very important people in shaping my discipline and character.

A mistake or lesson from school life?

Students always make many mistakes, and I too have made some. Generally, since my father was a teacher, I wasn't afraid of the teachers at that school like the other students. So, I would say and do whatever I thought. They also never disciplined me very strictly. One day, it rained in our town. Since our town is a hill station, the rain caused a landslide, and the road was blocked. There were 20 other students with me. At that time, I called the school and informed them that the road was blocked and we would be a little late. After saying that, instead of waiting until the road was cleared, we took another bus to Ooty, a neighboring town, and from there, we went to the town where the school was located. It was afternoon by the time we reached. Our headmaster was very angry when he found out. He punished all of us, asking why we went all the way to Ooty and wandered around instead of waiting until the road was cleared. I thought that since I was a teacher's daughter, they would let me off, but I also received the punishment along with them. We were made to keeldown outside in the rain until 2 PM. After that, we apologized and went to class. From then on, I never make any decisions on my own for any reason.

Reflect on how those school days contributed to making you who you are today.

The lessons I learned at this school have been invaluable in guiding my life. My patience, dignity, and self-control, which I acquired in large measure from this school, have been instrumental in my success. I have passed on these same values to my children, and they too are progressing well in their lives. I consider having studied at this school a great privilege and a blessing. Not only me, but many students like me have benefited from studying at this school. Many of them hold high positions. I am a former student of this school.

Best wishes, thank you for the invitation. I will definitely try to put my link in the description box.

Greetings,

Thank you so much for participating in the contest.

Getting admission into a reputed school helps a student learn many valuable things. Renowned schools usually have better teaching methods, dedicated teachers, and motivated students. From school life itself, these factors help a student develop discipline, punctuality, and a sense of responsibility, which eventually support academic growth. In my opinion, studying in such a school can truly become a life-changing moment in a student’s journey.

Being selected for positions like School People Leader and Quality Leader is not an ordinary achievement. Your teachers chose you after recognizing your leadership qualities and abilities. I personally believe that competing for or being selected for such responsibilities during student life helps develop leadership skills and confidence, which are very important later in life.

I also felt that having teachers like your class teacher in every school would make a big difference. Teachers who teach with passion and clarity naturally help students stay attentive in class and perform better in their studies.

As a school student, you clearly realized that the decision taken during the landslide incident was a mistake. The punishment you received, despite your family background, shows that discipline is equal for everyone. Perhaps this was meant to teach that rules apply to all without exception. This incident seems to have taught you an important lesson and helped you become more careful and mature in making decisions.

What touched me the most is that you have passed on these life values to your children as well. I sincerely wish that your children grow up to do well in life, just like you.
