More News Out of Panther Town
Well we all read it last night, Panthers part ways with Griffin just four weeks out of the finals. An interesting and seemingly spontaneous move from the club.
I've been following the story along and it keeps unravelling as time passes. Last night on 100% Footy Phil Gould stated that the move had nothing to do with recruitment and the retention of key players (hint hint Nathan Cleary).
Looks like that was a big lie. When the story first broke it was rumoured that the West Tigers were set to offer Nathan big money at the end of the year to come and play under his father Ivan. Turns out Panthers had their own scheme and have offered Ivan big money to come coach his son at the Panthers.
This happening just a few seasons after they sacked Ivan from the top job. It won't come without it's hiccups though, with Tigers CEO stating they won't release Ivan from his contract which is set to end in 2020.
If you ask me the Panthers are doing all they can to keep Nathan at their club; a player which they clearly believe they can build their franchise around.
It will be interesting to see what transpires in the coming days and weeks.
