New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern attends birthday of man previously accused of sexual offending. PM's boyfriend also suspected of criminal activity
While the police continue to investigate sexual abuse at a Labour Party youth camp, New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been the guest of honour at Darren Hughes 40th birthday.
Hughes is the former Labour MP who resigned from parliament in 2011 when he was accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old male. The teen was seen running naked from Hughes' house in a distressed state at 2am on March 2nd 2011.
Police failed to press charges against Hughes due to a lack of evidence and he left the country shortly afterwards, to work for a UK electoral reform organisation. However, Hughes recently returned and was joined by his former Labour colleagues, including Jacinda Ardern at his 40th birthday celebrations in Wellington.
Allegations of a criminal nature are also swirling around Ardern's boyfriend Clarke Gayford, who has been using a diplomatic passport, instead of his regular passport, to travel with the Prime Minister on her CHOGM trip.
According to social media a high profile New Zealander is facing cocaine charges but has name suppression while the matter is before the court. Many are speculating that Gayford could be the person with name suppression.
