Steemit Open Mic Week 90 | Florida Girl - Original Song | @daily-musings

in #openmic7 years ago (edited)

Hi All!

This week is the last open mic that I've filmed while staying in Ocean Beach, San Diego. My next entry will likely be filmed somewhere else on the pacific coast.

This song is called is an original song called Florida Girl. It's about growing up near the beach and the sense of home that brought me.

Hope you guys like it!

"Florida Girl"

Driving down Gulf Boulevard
Is where I went when I first got my car
Heading to my secret spot
Where we could smoke and not get caught
Driving down Gulf Boulevard

I'm a Florida girl
I've got sunshine in my hair
I'm a Florida girl
I've got freckles everywhere
from summers past

Driving down Gulf Boulevard
Looking for a place to park
But the snowbirds are down
and there's no spots around
so I'll just take a walk
Walking down Gulf Boulevard

I'm a Florida girl
I've got sand between my toes
I'm a Florida girl
I'm from where the palm trees grow

Driving away from Gulf Boulevard
Leaving with a heavy heart
But I know that I'll be back someday
To where the ocean wind blows
and the palm trees sway
Driving away from Gulf Boulevard

I'm a Florida girl
I've got sunshine in my hair
I'm a Florida girl
I've got freckles everywhere
from summers past

Oh good! I look forward to it @daily-musings 😅

Hahah the puppy sneeze sounded like a drum roll !!!
Yaaay she is baaaaaaack !
How do you add the reverb on the voice but not the guitar?? Or you just added reverb on the overall mix?Nice cactus stand !

I went to check online where Gulf Boulevard is , as I've never been to Florida :)

I added reverb on the whole mix! Thanks your right about the drumroll haha!!

Great composition and performance, girlfriend! Oh - and I loved the "puppy sneeze!" :-)

thanks so much!! :)

hello florida girl with sand between your toes... !!! I love the lyrics, I love the guitar... however it would be nice for you to learn about dlive (it's the "youtube" of steemit) but still keep both (youtube and dlive) !

enjoy the West side :)

Yay thanks so much! Dlive is great, I've just had trouble in the past uploading, not sure if it was a problem with the old computer or the site was just slow. I'll try again, thanks!

yeah yeah, dlive is still a work in progress, but at least no one can take your work down for what ever crap they may decide :).

Very true, I'm all for owning my own content.

It's the only path, I don't know your opinion but for me the greatest is TayTay ! aka taylor swift, from what I understood she is free.

for me and quickly the key point are as you understood, vertical integration of the art, to be free specially when it counts, and secondly be able to be diversified enough to be able to withstand total boycott / financial assault ;).

I am sure it's a very competitive industry, but once embraced by the public... surf the crowd :).

When I was a teenager, my parents, brother and I did visit the Florida coast. Until then, I had not walked on a beach when its tide was out and where the water usually goes.

Looking towards the sky and away from the shore felt like being in the wet desert of another world. Thank you for having brought me back to those halcyon days.

So much about your music is memorable to me. Often, it has made mine heart to feel like the kittenish cat that hath becometh mesmerized.

I hope to pick up my guitar from the shop, later today. The fellow who restored it said that it is a Harmony guitar from the early 1950s.

I've had it for many years but never knew its age; only that its sound doth suiteth my style. That is what I'm playing whilst singing my "Shipwreck'd Desires" sonnet, which I recently posted.

From one artist to another: I feel happy for you, that your work as an artist doth speaketh for itself and is establishing an audience here. Methinks that slowly but surely is the best way so that the rush which comes with being famous doth not overwhelm; though that is not necessarily within anybody's control—and perhaps in some strangely beautiful ways, that too be for the best.

Having said that, I suppose even the most talented of us can benefit from having a slew of loyal and supportive friends (including sneezing puppies) that are each accepting towards us, not only whenever we are in the midst of experimenting or practicing something unprecedented—and perhaps not yet once again at our best—but also for when acclimatizing to th'unexplored atmosphere of a newfound success.

There is also something to be said for a community of musicians having an appreciation for talking shop by means of our discussing and debating in a civil and scholarly manner with one another about the kind of criticism that is limited to th'objective side of Music—such as when teaching ourselves and each other about the different schools of music theory along with any instructive anecdotes from music history.

Thanks for sharing your story about your time on the Florida coast :) I agree that the Steemit platform is a great platform for building up the musician community. Also, I find it the perfect spot to share music in a more authentic and unpolished way, as I still practice on improving and finding my sound.

Thanks for listening!

I love this so much. You really paint a scene and bring me into the feel of floaty sea and sunshine days and nights. Beautifully done! 💖

That's so sweet thank you! That's definitely the vibe I was going for 👍

Really great! Thanks for sharing Florida girl!
