Open Mic Week 19 - He Tweets or The Life and Times of Donny T - an original song

in #openmic8 years ago (edited)

Hi all
Here's my entry for Open Mic Week 19. (I say Week 18 in the video; sorry I lost track of the weeks.)

The Spanish verse translates to something like "Enrique explained we aren't going to pay, I'd like to be friends but you're beginning to annoy me"

@merej99 suggested I post the lyrics :)

He Tweets – words and music by Ken Davis

Verse 1
Ol' Donny said he'd build a wall and we shouted out with glee
"tell Mexico to pay for it all, they surely would agree"
Enrique nos explico que no iban a pagar, quiero ser amigos pero usted me fastigar

Chorus
And he tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, he tweets out all his rage
He tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, a canary in a cage
And here we sit in a bucket of spit and cannot walk away

Verse 2
Oh Mustafa tried to come here and so did Roshni
They packed up all their dreams to come to the land of the free
But Bannon slammed the door in their face and said "not today"
He stood with a grin and a bottle of gin and drove them all away

Chorus
And he tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, he tweets out all his rage
He tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, a canary in a cage
And here we sit in a bucket of spit and cannot walk away

Verse 3
Then Kellyann Conway said in an interview today,
there was a massacre in Kentucky which made us think this way
But no such thing ever happened, it was all fake news you see
Putin planted the story so we would elect Donny T

Chorus
And he tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, he tweets out all his rage
He tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, a canary in a cage
And here we sit in a bucket of spit and cannot walk away

Verse 4
Then Donny called the Aussie's and he said "screw this dumb deal"
And the people in America truly began to squeal,
We love our roos and Dundees and love to Waltz Matilda
So please Mr. President whatever you do, don't invade Australia

Chorus
And he tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, he tweets out all his rage
He tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, a canary in a cage
And here we sit in a bucket of spit and cannot walk away

Verse 5
It was when he bombed Chicago, we the people understood
We gave away our freedom, we gave it away for good
For we no longer have to think, do math or read or write
We go to work everyday and go to our cells at night

Chorus
And he tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, he tweets out all his rage
He tweets, he tweets, the president tweets, a canary in a cage
And here we sit in a bucket of spit and cannot walk away

And here we sit in a bucket of spit and cannot waltz away

Many thanks to @luzcypher for running this and to @pfunk for generously supporting it.

Good luck to all.

Enjoy the day and Steem on brothers and sisters, Steem on.

Really deep lyrics with a humorous undertone. Very well written @ken-and-jane. Upvoted.

Funnily enough I'm writing a song on a related theme. I may save it for next week. Good luck in the contest

I'm looking forward to new it. Good luck to you as well.

This is very entertaining! Sounds like one of those catchy campfire songs haha While I'm not able to relate to everything (mainly because I'm not an American) the content is really enjoyable. If you cleaned it up and recorded it in a studio, I'm sure this will really catch on!

Thanks for the positive feedback. And unfortunately I expect Trump will say offensive things about every nationality, ethnicity, religion, and race before he's done. 😟

I think the world is half-expecting it. By that time, everyone will be able to relate to your song!

It almost sounds like an Irish drinking song. LOL
Hey, Ken, just a thought but... might you consider writing down the lyrics in your post for your original songs?

I've been listening to a lot of Irish songs lately getting ready for St Patrick's day so I kind of had that in mind.

Yes, good point regarding the lyrics. I am lazy and write them on my laptop but post on my ipad. Getting the lyrics from there to here feels like work. Ha ha.
