Painting "Life In a Bottle"
One of my artwork was the runner-up on a Student Art Competition of Petron Corporation in an Oil/Acrylic Painting Category with the theme:"Tuklas Kagalingan (Discover Filipino Exellence)", I recieved Php 30,000 in cash prize and a trophy.
2x3ft oilpainting.
I entitled this artwork "Life in a Bottle". It was inspired by an old man here in Davao city, Philippines who sells his intricate miniature artwork using indigenous materials and creates high-quality "bahay-kubo" or nipa hut, a coconut tree, and people inside glass bottles. (see photo below) He depicts a traditional Filipino life. Despite his age, he continues to create this amazing art for a living. He is truly an inspiration to me. He creates life inside the bottle and his creation changed his life. He went viral on social media. Many social media users have shared his story and have encouraged other people to take time and buy his items, especially those who are visiting or living in Davao.
I saw him on "Kadayawan Festival in Davao" while I was taking photographs of the "Indak-indak sa Kadalanan" - a street dancing in colorful costumes.
I was amazed so I stopped by and watched him creates his masterpiece. I took many photos of him and this one is my favorite. He was very busy that time and was surrounded by many customers, I was not able to buy one but we did take a picture together. I was happy to have met him in person.
Here's a closer look of his miniatures. Look how detailed they are. You can also request to put messages or names in it. He is selling each for a relatively cheap price Php 80.00 or less than $2.00 depending on the size of the bottle.
This is my first time to be in a local newspaper front page. The t-shirt design was also my entry and got the Grand prize for Php 50,000.00 in cash and a trophy.
