My Watercolor painting “Snow in Edinburgh” and Scooter
Hello dear Steemians,
Scotland still in Alert:
I start my post with weather update, that means:
- Schools are closed that makes the children happy, almost the whole week holiday, of course for many parents it is hard as they have to organize child minder or many of our employees have to stay at home.
- The same with my work place, many of my colleagues are travelling from Edinburgh with car, some with train. Many cars got stuck on the streets and been left their till weather got better. The trains again are going till 5 pm , the last one and the Rail can’t guarantee that they re-start working in the morning.
Sleep over “party” at work place:
To be on safer side my Employer offered to those who would like to stay at their work place, they are provided with the rooms with shower, basic meals and of course TV and music.
Of course, after already the third day of Snow storm and when the people have to stay 24 hours away from home, it is frustrating. Luckily, live in the near therefore, I can spend my after work hours at home.
But me and few of our friends decided to make the time of our stranded colleagues interesting and organized little party evening, of course it was a lot of music and famous Scotch Single Malt.
One of the favorite Hit of party was Scooter with “Move your ass”, nobody could stay still and we all felt us like in 90’s for those who do not know that hit, I am attaching and highly recommend to listen.
But before we go to Scooter, I would like to present my new painting.
Watercolor painting: “Snow in Edinburgh”, St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh
As you aware I am very beginner in watercolor art. That is my third successful work out of hundreds, those I destroyed and swear: Never again watercolor!
But I am a person, who does not like to give up easily, therefore, this week I tried hard and gave me a word that this week it will be Watercolor week. You have seen my Venice and Moscow paintings, this time because I live in Scotland I wanted to do the painting of our Capital city.
I love Edinburgh this city has a lot of historic old architecture and of course this is the place where the famous and favorite “Agent 007 alias James BOND”- Sean Connery was born.
I decided to demonstrate snowy day at the famous place in Edinburgh: St. Giles Cathedral:
Here are few steps:
As promised here is “Scooter” for your attention, my dear friends.
That snow holiday reminds me of when we were in school and got rain holidays when the weather was too intense for us to go to school. The work party sounds like fun. Bad weather can still cause good things. You say you're a beginner with watercolours but your work is fabulous! I think you should stick with it. You'll come up with more awesome art even if it takes a few tries to get there.
Thank you for your nice reply and your words in regards to my experimental work with watercolor. I will keep going and exploring more about watercolor. People say if you got right with that that is a great fun!
I can imagine the weather....and I like your non give up spirit . That makes us feel alive right. Thanks for sharing wonderful painting, video and writing as well :)
Thank you @theia, I believe this is the whole atmosphere here is like a family people who live in neighborhood offering others to stay over with them, the others offering a lift to and from work. Last two day military forces were organize to help to transport medical staff and patients, so that everything fills me up with so much appreciation, excitement and that is what I would like other people to know. Thanks for your wonderful words.
Looks great, the buildings have a lot of grace. i'm only used to waterpaint and couldn't het domein lessons and experience in the use of oil Paint. I have Just orderedmsome new brushes and waterpaint to continue my art work
Thank you for your comments, if you have a wish to try watercolor then you should but I can tell from experience it is really very tricky so watch some helpful videos in youtube they will really give you a lot of idea how to start up and how to makes your skills better. Oil painting much easier but also more expensive. Just see what you prefer.
Thank you for the advice, my kids also love to paint vso watercolour is the safest to use, I won't need alot of oil paint when I'm doing small works right? Then it isn't a problem to invest in it :)

"But I am a person, who does not like to give up easily" - the best quality for success. :) @stef1 ... This painting is superb. The perspective and the transparency of water colour are amazing. Superb :)
Thank you, that was really a hard job but with the satisfactory result
My pleasure, @stef1
Watercolour is hard.
I used to paint many years ago. Even did some commercial jobs but then put it down and went full on into photography.
In the summer I had a notion to want to paint again so i bought a little travel set of half pans and brush from the GSA art shop.
Quickly realised that I'd forgotten my touch and I was now rubbish at it.
I used to be good. :(
I can understand you Andrew, I think the best to start watercolors as a child, because htey never think if it looks like the building or a person, they just do and know that this is a building or a person and they are satisfied with it, they do not worry about the result, they are free. Once you start watercolor later it is a trouble, because your brain say: No... it does not look like it should be . Then people get frustrated and just stopped doing it, that is my opinion :)
