It is one of the most popular, nutritious, and essential food ingredients in our country. It is not only delicious but also rich in nutrients. Its place of origin is the ancient Middle East and Asia region. In Bangladesh, it is mainly cultivated as a Rabi seasonal crop. The cultivation of masoor dal is more common in districts like Faridpur, Rajbari, Kushtia, Pabna, Rajshahi, and several other areas.
Masoor dal is used to prepare dishes like dal-bhat, khichuri, mashed items, soups, and curries.
It is easy to cook, boils quickly, and is very popular as a light meal. In its dried form, it can also be eaten fried.
Every 100 grams of it contains about 24 to 26 grams of protein, around 60 grams of carbohydrates, and 8 to 9 grams of fiber.
In addition, it contains a good amount of iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, and folic acid.
