From last autumn, in the Cascade Mountains (album)

Autumn is a magical time here in Washington if you know where to look.

Strap on the hiking boots and do a little research and you can see one of my favorite things in the world.. larch trees. The window of opportunity is small. You have to act fast and hope the weather holds. These photos were taken just before the area became inaccessible for the season.

I was thankful that we made it. A friend and I embarked on a 26 mile overnight adventure. It was a long slog but worth every step to get to see these landscapes.

Western Larch trees (they can also be found in Europe) grow in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. If you're in the area, make an effort to see them.. seriously so cool.

If you don't live here, believe me when I say it's worth the visit. Really a magnificent experience seeing the larches turn up in the mountains.

This year I plan on seeing the larches turn up in B.C., most likely. The peaks up there are so massive and prominent, looks seriously amazing. Plus.. I've never been to Canada :)
