Five Summers Ago
We started our summer 5 years ago with a very long walk. I remember my Tita telling us that it's just a 2-kilometer walk, but if I remember it correctly - being the pain in my entire legs the ultimate bases - it was about 6-8 freakin' kilometers of walking just going to our family's private land. Good thing the place was of lovely greens with occasional surprises such as horses and skulls.
Almost everything we passed by were private properties so we weren't allowed to roam around freely. Those gigantic trees were so magical and stunning to look at, I only wish I took more photos of it. Apparently, we are going back once I'm home, so I'm very excited to really make something out of those beautiful, enchanting trees.
First unoccupied land we saw. Unoccupied means there wasn't a tree to cover as as we walk under the blazing sun. And I saw a beautiful skull! Unfortunately it was way up high and no one could reach it. After 3 minutes of trying to throw stones and failing each time, I gave up and just took a photo of it.
I was with Tita Melanie, my brother Andrew, and my cousins Maryel, Daynielle, Hanna & Allison. My youngest brother didn't come with us because he wanted to stay at home. I am an introvert, but my brother is in another level before. Now I'm glad that he's much more open towards people.
After walking for about 4 kilometers, we finally found a store and immediately bought softdrinks and some snacks. We stayed there for 30 minutes before going back to walking. I asked Tita just how long we've walked already, and she answered, "Half." And I swear I was also half: half-dead and half-burnt.
It was the Gangnam Style era thus the hand/arm crossing pose together with the horse who looked way too embarrassed for them. I also liked those dry leaves that almost looked bronze under the sun. And the stuff wrapped with news papers were mangoes.
After another few kilometers of walking, we finally reached our farm land. I remember spending my childhood summers there; although the picture in my head then was different from what welcomed us, well, except for the number of mango trees and cows.
Upon reaching, we immediately looked for places to take pictures of. We saw a dead tree which looked really cool so I told them to pose. I was the leader of the band with a man-cut. I took the 3rd photo with my bother in it.
After roaming and player around, it was Chibog time! It was a late lunch for all of us and we were more thirsty rather than hungry. We didn't bring much food. Just rice, some canned goods, and bola-bola. And surely it was enough for all of us!
We spent the rest of the day talking, playing, napping, and enjoying the beautiful mountains and fresh air. Unlucky, we were severely burnt. All's well though. It was one happy summer escapade! My Tita promised that we will visit the nearest waterfall when we get back, so I am really looking forward to it although most of us don't know how to swim. :)
