Quality pictures required to build a professional portfolio

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Just like most girls, I often dreamed about being a model. What can be better than posing and smiling all day long and you are getting paid for it. I thought I give it a try. I lived in London back then, you know the city where model agencies are in every corner. I walked in a couple of them just to see what they can offer. Some of them had joining fees, others wanted to make my portfolio first with their photographer and then later talk about the jobs they could offer. Of course, it was all about selling their service with no opportunities after that.

That's the way they make money. I would never pay a penny for joining organizations like that. I read a couple of reviews with mixed results. Those who ask money in advance are most probably the scammers. Real ones take some percentage of my work as commission in case I get any job.

After looking around I decided to join a modeling site and applied for TFP (Time For Print) shoots. I thought this was a good idea. I get free prints they keep the photos as a reference. I didn't have much money that time working for minimum wage and living in one of the most expensive cities of the planet. You can imagine how tight my budget was. Eventually got some pictures and I was so excited about it. I went back to the agency a few weeks later with the portfolio I created for myself.
