Hello Steemians,

Today I am going to emphasize the thesis associated with the beliefs in banyan tree and its medicinal applications.

Scientific Name: ficus benghalensis

Banyan tree is the most venerated tree among the Hindus. It is believed that God has given the shelter to his devotees according to Hindu mythology. This tree can survive over centuries and often called as Kalpabriksha. Also is a Bahupada tree because its roots can go down to the soil forming additional trunks. It is believed that Lord Brahma is the Root ,Lord Vishnu is the Bark while Lord Shiva is the Branches. It represents as well as symbolizes Tridev.

From another mythology, it's a tenet that Goddess Durga appears there and people offer water every saturday so that Ma Durga could change their luck. It is planted mostly near temples and people used to lace the holy rope around the tree to make their wishes fulfill.

When British came to India the Banias(Traders) of India used to gather under the large ahady fig tree so they named it as ** Banyan tree**.
