This is beautiful. I once rode the Amtrak from New York back to Oregon. 5 days on a train. Your bit about the smoking cars was so spot on and brought back wonderful memories. It is a shame they do not exist anymore because they truly were a gathering spot. A kind that doesn't exist in such a way anymore. Thank you for sharing.
