Pongal festival at my home and in Bhirahadisvara Temple (1000 Years Old temple)
Here is my younger and small brother who is cooking pongal and wishing you all a very Happy Pongal....:-)
The special harvest festival named as Pongal celebrated for four days in Tamilnadu, Bhirahadisvara temple which is an icon for thanjavur city celebrates this festival grandly, the specialty of this temple is that the shadow of that 13 stories height gopuram's (tower) shadow wont fall on the ground, specially on 'Mattu Pongal' the festival of cow there is a single granite stone sculpture Lord Nandhi, which will be decorated by 2 tons of fruits and vegetables, you can imagine how much big it will be.
Mostly at the time of pongal, people will prepare variety of pongal in mud pots and serve variety of rice such as sweet, salty, coconut, tamarind, lemon to god along with this they serve turmeric and ginger and also sugarcane and pray to god, this means that the upcoming days must be as sweet as sugarcane and also brings a bountiful harvest ahead, It also represents that it is a festival of kites in tamilnadu that we people will fly kites and also competitive with other persons to make his kite fly off.
Here are some of the pics which we celebrate pongal at our home and pics of bhirahadeshwarar temple, Have a look at this.
