Let's take a trip to DAR....

in #photography7 years ago

I recently took a trip to Dar es salaam, Tanzania and by road I mean a 16hr bus ride from Nairobi to Dar. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I had two seats to myself since the bus wasn't that full so I was able to stretch and essentially slept 10 of the 15hrs.

Most people visiting this gorgeous country typically go to the beachy side mostly Zanzibar and the tens of small beaches spread across Tanzania. But the city center has lots to offer as well. I am a city kindy gal and love architectural and the magnificence of huge cities top of my list being New york which I hope to one day get the pleasure of visiting.

Dar es Salaam is the former capital as well as the most populous city in Tanzania and a regionally important economic center. Located on the Swahili coast, the city is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with the friendliest people you will ever meet. They are mostly Swahili speakers so keep that in mind when planning that trip.

I was invited by someone so I spent the week at their apartment in the city which was beautiful and was tastefully furnished. It intrigued me since most apartments located in the city center in Nairobi are really crappy unlike Dar.

The roof top pool, where I could almost get a 360 degree angle view of the city.

The city also has one of the most unique restaurants in East and Central Africa, a spinning restaurant called Akemi. I have never seen anything like it before, it was great. I didn't even get to take photos as i wanted to take in the whole experience.

Now don't think I didn't get to go to the beach. Hunty, I did. It was just 40mins away and the water was not only clean but they offered lots of activities to do at the beach from snorkeling, boat rides, water sports.......a lot!

The transport system is also one of the most organised in East Africa. The buses are clean and follow the rules of the roads. The roads are also very clean, Dar es salaam, you did it for me and I plan to be back soon, probably on my way to Zanzibar another gem in Tanzania.

Tanzania has a lot more to offer like game drives, mountain hikes courtesy of Africa's tallest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro and tonnes of fun stuff to do. I just couldn't do it all in the one week I was there. But like I said, I will be back. Plan that trip people....money runs out but experiences are forever! On to the next adventure!

The city looks very clean! Tanzania is a beautiful country.

Very beautiful, I think Kenya and especially Nairobi has a lot to learn from Dar about cleanliness and organization
