Tiny Planet Photograph Consisting of 40 Photos (Stereographic projection)
Aloha fellow Steemers from Hawai'i Island!
I currently live at Lolia Place eco-village and retreat center where we get to run around in the nude.
We grow heaps of food veganically and we are just one year into the start up phase. The garden is pumping out tasty tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, okra and various leafy greens that were just planted 3 months ago. In the fruit department we've got many different species of bananas growing alongside large "strawberry papayas" tropical fruit like: rollinia, soursop and we have an entire old growth fruit orchard that produces mangoes, avocados and litchi. We've planted 400 white pineapples and different species of dragonfruit. I must admit I really love living here in vegan candy land!
How I got here: I was trained as a cabinet maker so I'm getting paid to do 20 hours a week in construction work and on the side I do photography and event promotion for Lolia Place. It all started when I wanted to attend the Hawai'i Tantra Festival but I didn't have the cash to do so. One day after Ecstatic Dance during the community announcements the founder of Lolia Place and his partner were looking for more volunteers to help wrap things up for the coming festival. I approached them afterwards revealing my skills as a craftsman and I was hired. Since the Tantra Festival in January, I've been living on site and have the opportunity to promote events here. I'm really looking forward to next years Tantra Festival. If you check out their facebook page you'll find that most of the photos posted recently were created by me having access to their account as an editor.
On to the photo I created for their facebook icon. I got up on a ladder and placed my tripod on top of it with the legs straddling the very top extending down to the next step down. I was able to create three different light exposures (High Dynamic Range photographs) of 13 different positions using a wide angle lens, to make up a 360º panorama adding up to a total of 39 photos (13 x 3). After editing the tiny planet I used an image of the night sky to really make the tiny planet look like it was out in space.
This is what the panorama looked like before I applied the stereographic projection filter (flat earth lol). Before you do so, you have to stretch the image in to a perfect square and flip it upside down. I used this article to learn how to create these tiny planets. It was fascinating to learn that you can create these tiny planets with a single photograph of an island or a boat out at sea. This is the article I used to learn this technique: How to Create Your Own Planets Using Your Panoramas.
Now I challenge you to create a tiny planet with your photos! You can even to this with a smartphone! There are plenty of blogs out there on how to do it.
