Abandoned Hospital [Urban Exploring]

in #photography7 years ago

Hall

Henryton State Hospital was built in 1922, and was mainly used to treat African American patients suffering from Tuberculosis. The campus contained 6 buildings, and had the capacity to house up to 400 residents.

By 1985, the complex was closed and boarded up for good. Over the years, the hospital has been extensively damaged by vandals, drifters, drug addicts, and graffiti artists. Many fires have broken out over the years. Nearly all doors and windows have been smashed and broken. Many walls and parts of the roof are collapsed. The presence of asbestos is also a danger.

I was able to visit the complex before it finally demolished. Here are some of the grungy photos I took:

The easiest way to access the complex was a train tunnel (which is still in operation):

Wow, I can Imagine how this same structure looks when activities were still going on in it.
