[ENG-SPN] Romanesque churches: Art and Fantasy / Iglesias románicas: Arte y Fantasía

One never falls into arrogance or exaggeration, when it is stated, with the roundness that experience grants, that Romanesque Art was the Art of Christianity par excellence, during that Middle Ages, which every day attracts more attention from travelers and tourists, who never cease to surprise and fascinate. In fact, possibly France and Spain are the countries that stood out the most and that have the most churches of this remarkable Art to their credit.
An Art, on the other hand, that increased with the discovery of the supposed remains of the Apostle Santiago, in Compostela, which brought as a consequence the reopening of the old Roman roads, open again to the traffic of people and merchandise, reconverted and molded into new pilgrimage routes.

Detail, which also brought as a more immediate consequence, the flow of itinerant companies of masons, who applied their own techniques and knowledge in many temples like this one, located in the Castilian community of La Bureba, where it stands out, above all, its fantastic main cover, in which you can see an elaborate medieval bestiary, whose unique elements also inspired the imagination of numerous modern writers, such as the great writer of Argentine origin, Jorge Luis Borges and his no less great 'Book of imaginary beings'.

Nunca se cae en la soberbia ni tampoco en la exageración, cuando se afirma, con la rotundidad que otorga la experiencia, que el Arte Románico fue el Arte de la Cristiandad por excelencia, durante aquella Edad Media, que cada día atrae más la atención de viajeros y turistas, a los que no deja de sorprender y fascinar. De hecho, posiblemente Francia y España, sean los países que más destacaron y que mas iglesias de este notable Arte tienen en su haber.

Un Arte, por otra parte, que se acrecentó con el descubrimiento de los supuestos restos del Apóstol Santiago, en Compostela, que trajo como consecuencia la reapertura de las viejas calzadas romanas, abiertas otra vez al tráfico de personas y mercancías, reconvertidos y amoldados en nuevos caminos de peregrinación.

Detalle, que además, trajo como consecuencia más inmediata, el flujo de compañías itinerantes de albañiles, que aplicaron sus propias técnicas y conocimientos en multitud de templos como éste, situado en la mediática comunidad castellana de La Bureba, donde destaca, sobre todo, su fantástica portada principal, en la se aprecia un elaborado bestiario medieval, cuyos singulares elementos, inspiraron también la imaginación de numerosos literatos modernos, como el genial escritor de origen argentino, Jorge Luis Borges y su no menos genial ‘Libro de los seres imaginarios’.
