Photography Essay of Maine - part 1

This is my first trip to Maine. I've been here three days and let me tell you something...I've eaten lobster on the banks of the St. George River, sautéed cod and shrimp at Cecil's house and filled my sweet tooth with Beth's homemade blueberry pie (even though a local said her pie wasn't fit to eat...it was pretty damn good).

Why Maine? You may ask. I'll tell you why: it's full of rich history of ship builders, boat captains, lobster fisherman, farmers, rednecks, old architecture going back to the 1600's, evidence of the American Indians before they were forced out, founding forefathers ... the list goes on and on. For me it's the natural beauty combined with the colorful characters that are proud to be Mainers.

I've been in Maine just a short three days and I'm just scratching the surface as to what this place is really about. Luckily I have friends from Thomaston, Maine who have hosted me and told me stories of Maine's colorful maritime history and tales of the characters that live in Maine today. There's salt in the air and salt in their blood.

Today I was entertained by a local named Cecil. Cecil invited us to throw axes, knives and shoot a bow and arrow. He cooked cod sautéed in butter and told us some tall tales of locals...but truth be told I don't think his stories were tall tales; I'm quite certain they were all true.

In between spending time with Cecil I had a chance to snap off images along Hwy 1 around Thomaston, Rockbridge, Rockport, St. George and Tennants Harbour. Be sure to check back tomorrow or the day after as I will be here for another week and posting photos exclusively for Steemit. I'll even write a little more than this post, but the truth be told I spent many hours the past three days taking these images for your enjoyment and I am wiped out. I'll write more about my experience in the next.

Enjoy the photos of Maine...it's a magical place worth a visit in the summer or fall when the leaves turn. The photos are better than my writing anyway...have fun and be sure to comment.
