African Zebra's (Equus quagga) by the local nature reserve..
I took this image while taking a drive through our local nature reserve which is about 20 min from the town where we live in.
Interesting fact about zebras;
1 No one zebras stripes are in the same pattern as the other, so each zebra's stripes is its own bar code if you'd like to say.
2 They live in herds just like wild horses do.
3 They are extremely intelligent creatures.. my mother's gran had one as a child.. and my mother always tells stories that her granny shared with her about how her zebra lived in their yard as her pet and she could ride it etc.. just like any tame horse now days.
- Life span is between 20-30 yrs.
I love looking at herds of these beautiful animals. They are so unique and pretty in their own special way. Being herbivores they are not really aggressive in nature and they truly love their family members dearly, each time I sit watching them interact it is clear how deep their affection runs for each other.
I tried to get a nice clean clear shot of the baby foal.. but as you can see in this photo his/her family kept him/her very well sheltered in the middle of the herd.
I hope you enjoyed ;o)
