Martyrs' Memorial
The Memorial of the Martyr is a monument to the dead commemorating the Algerian war for independence, the monument was inaugurated in 1982 for the 20th anniversary of the independence of Algeria.
The construction of the monument was entrusted to the Canadian company Lavalin.
The 92-meter-high monument is composed of three palm leaves that meet half-way up, an Islamic-style turret with a diameter of 10 meters and a height of 7.6 meters and topped a dome of 6 meters. At the edge of each palm leaf stands a statue of a soldier, each representing a step in the struggle for independence of Algeria.
The whole rests on an esplanade or burns an eternal flame. Below the monument is a crypt, an amphitheater and the Moujahid Museum.
Nine months were needed to build this architectural work.
