📸 - RedBull Ice Cross Downhill - Original sportsphotography
I was credentialed for a few years to shoot the RedBull Crashed Ice races up in Minnesota. Man what a fun time it was, the racers are all hockey players, tough as hell (you HAVE to be in this sport, people left the course in ambulances with broken bones and pelvises!) and a great/high action sport to shoot! I made a lot of friends while spending multiple days shooting the various practices and actual races, and even behind the scenes. Hopefully I'll be posting more shots from these awesome races.
This shot was taken on the course they set up on an actual ski hill which was iced down to make a hard surface on top of huge snow jumps. These guys are crazy!

That is super cool man! @nords
Ha, yeah these crazy guys are doing crazy shit and having a blast!
I've always wanted to go to one of these race events, they look awesome! Do you know how they get the ice to freeze sloped like that? These guys are absurd
If one is ever near you, GO!!! Its totally worth the experience, there are crazy amounts of people all there to have a good time. For the main tracks, they use refrigerated lines under the track and add water on top. For this ski-hill track, they just spray water, let it freeze, and repeat many, many times until the snow itself is a hard (and bumpy compared to a man made track) surface. And yes, these guys are insane, I wouldn't even go down these tracks on a sled.
