Quiet Nights at the TruckstopsteemCreated with Sketch.

I shut down at the West Gardiner Service Plaza wayyyy up in Maine after running almost 550 miles (that's like 900km for you metric people) in the Northeast, no less. I settled into the bed in back, and for a few minutes relaxed and stared out the curtains at the pale light from the lampposts gently streaming across the pavement and into the comforting darkness of my truck.

Mild and peaceful, the service plazas up in Maine aren't crowded and littered like those in Connecticut, NY, and NJ.

You can actually sort of hear yourself think!

With the trees in the background, it's so peaceful. That's one of the nice things about truck driving, is you can get that gentle play of light on dark on pavement surrounded by nature that you can't get if you were tucked away into a big house in the suburbs or a tiny apartment in the city. I've always loved how the light plays across the pavement, but it's always SO COLD!

Luckily my truck has a great heater back in the sleeper berth :)
